BIRMINGHAM – Texas A&M first baseman Gavin Grahovac was named SEC Player of the Week and outfielder Jorian Wilson was selected as SEC Freshman of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday afternoon. The Aggies (22-5, 5-4) went 4-0 on the week with a Tuesday win over HCU and topped Missouri in three games to claim the series sweep.
The weekly honor marks the third of Grahovac's career. Wilson earned SEC weekly recognition for the first time in his career.
Grahovac blasted four home runs in the series at Missouri, logging 12 RBI, seven runs, two stolen bases, four walks and a hit by pitch. The junior registered a .600 on-base percentage and a 1.600 slugging percentage in the series. In Saturday's contest, Grahovac went 2-for-5 with a pair of home runs, three runs, five RBI and two walks. His first long ball was a three-run shot in the third inning and he followed with a two-run jack in the fifth. The Orange, California, native had a career day in Sunday's finale, knocking two home runs for the second consecutive game and driving in a career-best seven RBI. His first homer of the game was a three-run shot in the second inning. In the third inning, Grahovac belted his second career grand slam with a deep drive to center field.
Wilson made three starts in right field over the week, going 6-for-12 with two homers, a double, three runs, four RBI, a walk and a stolen base. In Tuesday's midweek with HCU, Wilson drove a solo shot in the fourth inning and saved a run from scoring on defense with an on-target throw to the plate to register a 9-2 putout in the fifth. The freshman made the start in Friday's opener with Missouri, going 2-for-5 with three RBI. Both of his hits came in the fourth inning and went for extra bases. The Hallettsville, Texas, native led off the frame with a solo shot to right field, and later plated two runs on a sharp double down the right field line. In Sunday's finale, Wilson recorded a career-best three hits and scored a run.
The Aggies return to Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park for Tuesday's 6 p.m. game with Sam Houston.
