COLLEGE STATION – After guiding the Texas A&M diving program for 17 seasons, Jay Lerew has retired and assistant coach Jeff Bro will be elevated to head diving coach, Director of Swimming & Diving Blaire Anderson announced Tuesday afternoon.
"We want to thank Jay Lerew for his many years of success and dedication to Texas A&M and its swimming & diving program," Anderson said. "Under his direction, the diving program has produced multiple NCAA Champions, including the school's first platform champion last weekend, as well as dozens of All-Americans and conference champions. His influence and impact on the swimming & diving program, as well as collegiate diving in general, cannot be overstated."
Anderson added, "We're extremely excited to promote Coach Bro to lead our program. This decision reflects our confidence in his leadership and experience, and our firm commitment to maintaining a strong and competitive diving program. We are fully invested in its future and in continuing to compete at a national level."
A two-time CSCAA National Coach of the Year and seven-time conference coach of the year, Lerew produced A&M's first men's and women's NCAA Champions and developed 23 All-Americans as well as 22 conference individual champions. Three Aggies have claimed four individual national titles under Lerew's guidance, including Jaele Patrick on the 3-meter in 2012, Kurtis Mathews on the 1-meter and 3-meter in 2022, and most recently Emilio Trevino on platform in 2026.
Bro has been with the Texas A&M program for three seasons and has more than 20 years of high-level, national and international coaching experience. While at Texas A&M, Bro played a key role in the development multiple SEC medalists and All-America divers.
A former USA Diving National Coach of the Year, Bro developed and guided multiple Junior World medalists and USA National Champions, while also guiding the G.C. Diving club in Southlake, Texas, to four team national championships. Bro served as a coach on the U.S. Olympic Diving Team, most recently at the 2020 Tokyo Games where he helped guide Hailey Hernandez to the 3-meter finals.
