Fernández García-Poggio Leads Aggies on 36 Hole Day at GameAbove Invitational
Mar 09, 2026 | Women's Golf
ROLLING HILLS ESTATES, Calif. – The No. 4 Texas A&M women's golf team was in second after 36 holes Monday at the GameAbove Invitational and were led by Cayetana Fernández García-Poggio who was tied for third individually.
"A lot of good things happened today," Head Coach Gerrod Chadwell said. "It takes a lot of local knowledge to get around this golf course. I thought we did a good job of using slope to get balls close to the holes. We had some speed control issues on the greens, but we did a lot of great stuff. I am excited that we have a chance tomorrow. Anything can happen in team golf. The way that course was playing in the afternoon, was the way that the national championship feels like in San Diego. This is a great experience for us."
The Maroon & White (+1) were behind No. 2 USC (-13), who hosted the tournament, by 14 shots after two rounds of play. The Aggies were ahead of No. 3 Oregon (+9), No. 30 Eastern Michigan (+9) and No. 26 SMU (+11) to round out the top five. Texas A&M also had a 19-stroke advantage over No. 11 UCLA.
Fernández García-Poggio shot a 1-over 73 in the first round but followed that up with a stellar 4-under 68 to bring her 36-hole score to 3-under 141. The junior was even par thru 12 holes in the second round and drained three birdies in four holes to secure the score.
Brynn Kort and Sky Sudberry both claimed spots in the top 10, placing tied for ninth heading into Tuesday's action at 1-over 145. Natalie Yen held onto a share of 13th at 2-over 146. Vanessa Borovilos rounded out the lineup tied for 26th.
The Aggies return to the course at 10:40 a.m. Tuesday for the final round. The event will be live streamed on CGN's Youtube Channel. Live stats for the event can be found at scoreboard.clippd.com.
