Women’s Basketball Inks Alabama Transfer Essence Cody
Apr 25, 2026 | Women's Basketball
COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M women's basketball announced the signing of Alabama transfer Essence Cody Saturday.
"We are extremely excited to welcome Essence to Aggieland," Head Coach Joni Taylor said. "Her ability to score in the paint and stretch defenses gives our offense tremendous flexibility. She brings invaluable SEC and NCAA Tournament experience to our frontcourt, and we can't wait to fully introduce her to the 12th Man."
Cody competed in 94 games for the Crimson Tide (2023-26) and started in six NCAA Tournament games across three trips to March Madness. During her career, the 6-4 forward has averaged 11.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.6 blocks and shot 51.5% from the field. Cody has amassed averages of 13.2 points and 6.0 rebounds per outing in the NCAA Tournament.
The Valdosta, Georgia, native was named to the 2024 SEC All-Freshman Team and was selected as SEC Freshman of the Week on four occasions. The rising senior has scored in double-figures in 46 games throughout her career and led Alabama in blocks per game in two of her three seasons in Tuscaloosa.
The former five-star recruit was a 2023 McDonald's and BallisLife All-American. Cody was the No. 22 recruit in the 2023 class. Texas A&M now has three players from the top 100 of the 2023 class signed to play next season with Cody, Janae Kent and Miyah Verse.
Cody joins Verse (Georgia) and Kaniya Boyd (Tennssee) as transfers to sign with the Aggies this offseason.
