Earley Adds Enright to Staff as Pitching Coach
Jun 11, 2026 | Baseball
COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M baseball head coach Michael Earley announced the hiring of former big leaguer Barry Enright to the 2027 staff as the Aggies' new pitching coach.
Enright joins the staff in Aggieland after stints with the Arizona Diamondbacks, Los Angeles Angels, and Athletics organizations in pitching leadership positions.
"We took our time and conducted a national search to find the right person to lead our pitching staff. We were looking for someone with elite knowledge of modern pitching development, but also someone who has coached and competed at the highest levels of the game and can build meaningful relationships with our players," Earley said upon the hiring of Enright. "Throughout that process, Barry's name consistently came up from some of the most respected people in professional baseball. The more conversations we had, the more convinced I became that he was the right fit for Texas A&M. Barry brings a unique combination of player development expertise, Major League experience, and the ability to connect with today's student athletes. We believe he can help make Texas A&M the premier destination for pitchers in college baseball."
Enright, a native of Stockton, California, was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the second round of the 2007 MLB Draft after his collegiate career at Pepperdine University. He made his big-league debut in 2010 with Arizona and spent four years in the majors between the Diamondbacks and Angels. The right-hander continued his playing career in the Mexican Baseball League before retiring from professional baseball in 2019.
His coaching career began in 2019 when he was named pitching coach of the Hillsboro Hops, the High-A affiliate of the Diamondbacks. In 2021, Enright was elevated to an assistant pitching coach role for Arizona's big-league club, contributing to the Diamondbacks' 2023 run to the World Series, which was fueled by standout pitching seasons from Merrill Kelly and Cy Young Award finalist Zac Gallen.
Ahead of the 2024 major league season, Los Angeles Angels manager Ron Washington added Enright to the staff as the lead pitching coach. Under Enright's direction, the Angels sent Tyler Anderson (2024) and Yusei Kikuchi (2025) to the All-Star Game.
Enright was named the minor league pitching coordinator for the Athletics in 2026. During his time with the organization, Enright oversaw the development of three of the MLB's current top 100 prospects, including Jamie Arnold (No. 26), Gage Jump (No. 38) and Wei-En Lin (No. 90). Additionally, he directed the minor league development of former Aggie pitchers Micah Dallas, Nathan Dettmer and Will Johnston. Enright's coaching résumé also includes international experience as the pitching coach for Team Great Britain during the 2026 World Baseball Classic.
"As we continue to invest in our program with a new facility and state of the art pitching lab, it's critical that we put the right people in positions to maximize those resources. We believe Barry is the perfect person to lead that effort, and we're excited about the impact he'll have on our pitchers and the future of Texas A&M Baseball," said Earley. "Barry, his wife Alexis, and their two children are a tremendous addition to Aggieland. We look forward to having them as part of our program and community."
