Employment
The Center for Student-Athlete Services has two opportunities for part-time employment within the department assisting our student-athletes with their academic course work.
Tutoring
Tutors help student-athletes from all academic levels better comprehend material across a wide variety of courses. This is done on a subject specific basis meaning that a tutor will meet with a student-athlete to help them in a specific course. Tutors help student-athletes study for quizzes and exams, complete papers and projects, and review concepts covered in class to ensure that the student-athletes are fully comprehending the course content. Tutors are allowed to work NO MORE than 20 hours a week. In order to be considered for a tutoring position, applicants must: 1.) be a sophomore or higher at the University, 2.) have received an A in the course they want to tutor, and 3.) have a 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher (3.5 is the desired GPA). Interested applicants can apply at https://jobsforaggies.tamu.edu/ where they will be required to submit a resume and unofficial transcripts.
Academic Mentors
The role of the Mentor is to work with assigned student-athletes to develop a professional relationship that maximizes their academic potential. Mentors should be engaged with the student spending individual time assisting, quizzing and reviewing study materials. Mentors assist student-athletes in developing study skills, learning strategies, time management skills, and overall organizational skills. Mentors meet with an assigned caseload of students, usually between four and six, on a daily basis. They collaborate with Scholastic Supervisors and Learning Specialists through an online reporting system about daily progress and individual student needs.
Day Mentors generally work 4 hours a day, Monday through Friday, sometime between the hours of 8am and 3pm. Night mentors generally work 3 hours a day, Monday through Thursday, between the hours of 5pm and 10pm. All Mentors are limited to working NO MORE than 20 hours per week. Mentors working other jobs on campus must have permission from that department in order to work dual-employment.
Requirements include a Bachelor’s degree and experience working with students in an academic environment. Interested applicants can apply online by following the steps below:
