MISSION
The mission of F.A.C.E. Mental Health is to generate awareness, develop a sense of community, provide education, and advocate for the variety of mental health concerns and challenges student-athletes experience. Specifically, we aim to create a space for student-athletes to gather and provide support while also challenging and strengthening each other as individuals and competitors. By providing dynamic and engaging education and discussion opportunities, F.A.C.E. Mental Health intends to increase awareness and acceptance of mental health concerns while also encouraging student-athletes to serve as active advocates in reducing the stigma often associated with mental health.
VISION
Student-athletes face unique challenges and immense expectations when balancing their various responsibilities, including managing academic and athletic performance pressures, maintaining adequate nutrition and sleep routines, and representing their university at the highest levels. While working to simultaneously excel in each of these areas, mental health difficulties are often overlooked. As such, F.A.C.E. Mental Health will enhance the athletic environment and the student-athlete experience by creating a “brave space” where talking about mental health experiences and challenges is normalized and encouraged while also providing educational resources and applied strategies to help student-athletes more effectively cope and manage experiences related to mental health concerns.
