My Fellowship Year in Review

Madison Treece, a PhD Fellow in the Sports Science department, shares her experiences during year one of her time in Aggieland.
In August 2021, I began my most recent life chapter at Texas A&M University as Sports Science Fellow, emphasizing on Biomechanics. It has been a little over a year since I have embarked on this journey. The growth I have experienced has been exponential.
My first semester allotted more time to building relationships with the teams I work most closely with and prioritizing the required coursework of my PhD in Kinesiology. By my second semester, I was adding in new testing protocols, leading team presentations, and given the opportunity to be a part of hiring committees while progressing my PhD by submitting Internal Review Board (IRB) protocols. I was feeling fatigued by the beginning of summer, but a short break and travel to the National American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) conference gave me the time to recuperate and return fully motivated to continue my progress.
There were some bumps and change of Performance & Wellness staff along the way, but we were able to do some deeper dives, continue to develop our athlete management system, and plan for the integration of our testing into team training. With new additions to our team, and continued efforts at communication and collaboration, I have high expectations for the continued growth in myself, our unit, and our institution in this coming year.
