Jeff Christy enters his second season as the Aggies’ volunteer assistant coach in 2019.
The former University of Nebraska standout was added to the Texas A&M Baseball staff in August of 2017. Christy mentors the catchers as well as handling duties pertaining to on-campus recruiting and development of scouting reports. He also handles chores as the first base coach.
In his first season in Aggieland, Texas A&M finished 40-22 and made their 12th consecutive NCAA tournament appearance. The team batted .287 with a .423 slugging percentage and .364 on-base percentage. Aggie catchers Cole Bedford and Hunter Coleman combined for 19 doubles, 10 home runs and 62 RBI on the season. Defensively, the duo committed just three errors while throwing out 13 of 52 attempted base stealers.
Arriving in College Station with seven years of collegiate coaching experience, Christy most recently served as an assistant coach at the University of Central Oklahoma for two seasons. In his two years on staff, the Bronchos posted a 67-43-1 mark, including a 37-21-1 campaign in 2017 that saw UCO advance to the Central Regional final in their first NCAA Division II Championship appearance since 2006.
Christy served as a volunteer assistant coach at his alma mater from 2012-15. He also spent the 2011 season on the staff at Wichita State.
As a player at Nebraska, Christy caught a school-record 64 games as a junior in 2005, hitting .236 with 32 RBI while throwing out 45 percent of opposing runners, including 8-of-11 in the postseason. An All-Big 12 Honorable Mention in 2006, Christy hit .284 with eight home runs and 32 RBI, while leading the Huskers to 42 wins and a No. 6 national seed.
Christy started his playing career at Barton County Community College, earning All-Jayhawk League First Team in 2004 and Honorable Mention in 2003.
After his collegiate career, Christy was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the sixth round of the 2006 MLB Draft. He reached Triple-A in 2008 and 2009, playing for the Rochester Red Wings. He spent the 2010 season with the Wichita Wingnuts of the American Association and was named an All-Star while hitting .289 with 40 runs, 82 hits, 12 doubles, one triple, one home run and 39 RBI.
Christy earned his bachelor’s degree from Nebraska in 2007. He and his wife Michelle were married in 2007 and have daughter (Quinn) and twins (Griffin and Stella).
