Jerry Johnson is in his fourth season as an assistant strength & conditioning coach at Texas A&M, after spending the last three seasons on Jimbo Fisher’s staff at Florida State.
Johnson served as a defensive quality control assistant beginning in 2015 and was the interim defensive tackles coach in the Seminoles’ final game of the 2017 season and bowl game. Johnson assisted in the development of Derrick Nnadi, who was selected in the third round by Kansas City in the 2018 NFL Draft, and Demarcus Christmas, a sixth-round selection by the Seattle Seahawks in 2019. In his time at FSU, Johnson helped the Seminoles to a victory over Michigan in the 2016 Orange Bowl and a win against Southern Miss in the 2017 Independence Bowl.
A fourth round selection by the Denver Broncos in the 2000 NFL Draft, Johnson was a three-year starter for head coach Bobby Bowden at Florida State and was a member of the 1999 National Championship team that went 12-0 and was the first team in NCAA history to go wire-to-wire as the nation’s No. 1 team from preseason through the bowl season. He was a member of the 1997 All-ACC Academic Team, the 1999 All-ACC First Team and earned the Don Powell Award for Outstanding Sportsmanship presented by the Orlando Touchdown Club.
Johnson played for the Broncos for two seasons (2000 & 2001) before playing one season (2003) in the Arena Football League with the Orlando Predators.
A native of Ft. Pierce, Fla., Johnson was recruited out of high school by Coach Fisher, who was an assistant coach at Auburn during that time. Johnson earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science from FSU in 2002 and holds his Sports Performance Coach certification through the USA Weightlifting Federation, and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). He is married to Zana and has two sons, Jerry III and Chantz.2/21
