High School: As a senior was named the District 6-4A Most Valuable Player ... as a junior garnered District 6-4A Offensive Most Valuable Player Honors ... member of Dave Campbell's Texas Football Super Team (2nd Team QB) ... during his award-winning senior campaign threw for 2,199 yards and 14 touchdowns while adding another 531 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground ... as a junior threw for 2,051 yards and 24 touchdowns and rushed for another 911 yards and 17 touchdowns ... over his junior and senior seasons threw 38 touchdown passes to only six interceptions ... coached by Jim Skinner at Birdville HS.
