Led the team with 82 tackles, including 43 solo stops, while starting every game at safety ... also led the team with eight passes broken up ... had a pair of big double-digit tackle games with 14 vs. Rice and a career-high 15 against LSU ... broke up a season-high two opponent aerials against Lamar and ULM.
2013 (JUNIOR)
Started in all 13 games as a defensive back … led the Aggie defense with 44 solo stops … recorded a team second-best 90 total tackles … had the first pick-six of his career against Vanderbilt (Oct. 26) and had a career-high two interceptions against UTEP (Nov. 2) … also had a career-high 14 total tackles and eight solo stops against the Commodores … forced a fumble against Auburn (Oct. 19) … had 2.5 tackles for loss … broke up six passes on the year.
2012 (SOPHOMORE)
Had a standout sophomore season, with 58 tackles, including 34 solo hits and a tackle for loss … had five or more tackles in six games, including the last four of the season ... had a career-high 13 stops against Missouri ... broke up six passes on the season, including a career-high three against South Carolina State … played in 12 of 13 games, starting in five … big hit on an Alabama receiver led to a crucial Sean Porter interception of Crimson Tide QB A.J. 2011 (FRESHMAN)
Contributed 28 tackles, including two sacks and four QB pressures, as a true freshman … played in all 13 games, and started against Texas Tech and Baylor … in his first career start, Matthews made five solo tackles, including a sack, two tackles for loss and four QB pressures against Texas Tech … matched his season high of five tackles against Kansas.

Coached by Clint Hartman at Clear Springs High School … earned second-team Class 5A All-State honors and first-team All-Greater Houston honors as a senior after posting 55 receptions for 864 yards and 6 TDs; 107 carries for 1,003 yards and 11 TD’s; 4 passing TDs; 2 kickoff returns for TD; 1 INT on defense … as a junior at Seguin High School, Matthews had nine interceptions, including one he returned for a touchdown, while playing only seven games … as a senior, Matthews was named 24-5A First Team All-District (offense and special teams); No. 6 Athlete in Texas by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football; DCTF Top 300, PrepStar All-Region; Superprep All-Region … chose Texas A&M over Oklahoma State.
