One of the nation’s top young collegiate tennis coaches, former Texas A&M All-American Barnaby Smith returned to Aggieland as an assistant coach in the Fall of 2023.
In his three seasons as assistant coach, the Aggies have advanced to the NCAA Championships three times, including a pair of trips to the Super Regional round of the tournament. The Aggies have produced a pair of 20-win seasons during his tenure. A tireless recruiter, Smith was instrumental in bringing All-Americans Theo Papamalamis and Togan Tokac to Texas A&M.
Smith played under head coach Steve Denton at A&M from 2018-2021, compiling a 57-26 singles record and leading team in singles and doubles wins in 2018-19. He played a key role in the Aggies’ undefeated SEC Regular Season Championship (12-0) and program-best NCAA Final 4 appearance in 2018. He earned All-America honors in doubles in 2019 and was ranked as high as No. 1 in doubles and No. 35 in singles that season. His teammates voted Smith as the 2019 Aggie Heart Award recipient.
He played his final collegiate season at Florida State, where he helped lead the Seminoles to 20-9 record, which included runs to the semifinals of the ACC Tournament and the second round of the NCAA Championships.
A native of High Wycombe, Great Britain, Smith earned his bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences from Florida State in 2023. He served as a tennis coach for the Seminole High-Performance Academy in Tallahassee, Florida after the conclusion of his collegiate career.
