Chris Harrell is in his eighth year as the athletic assistant for Texas A&M track & field. Harrell handles a large variety of internal and external roles within the track & field program. He is a key liaison to the athletic department’s internal operations staff and handles oversight of student workers/managers, assists in meet management and staffing, as well as roster and compliance management. Harrell has also played a major role in on-campus recruiting during his time with the track & field program. He has been the Aggie Track & Field Camp Director since 2018.
Harrell is a veteran of both Texas A&M and the athletic department. He spent 11 years in various roles as a member of the A&M athletic media relations staff, serving as SID for sports including archery, equestrian, men’s & women’s cross country & track & field, and men’s & women’s swimming & diving. Harrell wrote more than 30 media guides during his time in athletic media relations with at least 11 of them winning ‘Best in the Nation’ honors. He was also named Sports Information Director of the Year by Swimming World Magazine in 2009 after playing a major role in hosting both the men’s & women’s NCAA Championships in College Station on back-to-back weekends.
Following his first stint in Texas A&M Athletics, Harrell served nearly four years in the Texas A&M Department of Performance Studies as well as two-and-a-half years in the development office at Texas A&M Libraries all while being the news editor for CollegeSwimming.com. Harrell is also in his 15th season as the statistician for the National Collegiate Equestrian Association.
The 23-year Texas A&M veteran is a 1997 graduate of the University of Texas at El Paso where he served as the media relations contact for men’s & women’s cross country and track & field, rifle, and women’s volleyball all while earning his undergraduate degree. The College Station native resides in Bryan with wife, Allison.
