Simon Haake joined the Texas A&M athletics department in summer of 2018 as assistant sports performance coach. He is responsible for the strength program for Aggie Men’s and Women’s Track and Field short sprints, hurdles, and mid-distance, as well as all phases of strength training for the Equestrian team.
Previously, Haake spent seven seasons (2011-2017) as an assistant strength coach at the University of North Carolina with the football program. During his time there, UNC went to five bowl games and won the Coastal Division twice, with a program-matching best season of 11-1 in 2015. Haake led the use of performance technology including the Catapult GPS System. Prior to UNC, Haake was an assistant strength coach at UNC-Asheville, working with men’s and women’s tennis, women’s soccer, women’s basketball and assisting with baseball, men’s basketball, men’s soccer, and track and field. From 2010-2011, Haake also assisted with performance testing of USA-Canoe/Kayak.
Haake is a former track and field decathlete and two-time regional qualifier in the javelin (2010,2011). He is a 2011 graduate of UNC-Asheville and received his Master’s in Exercise Physiology from UNC-Chapel Hill in 2013.
Haake is a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association with a CSCS certification, USA-Weightlifting Association coaching certification, and CPR-First Aid certified through the American Red Cross. He and his wife, Erika, have one daughter, Mara.
