John McCombs is in his fifth season as an assistant coach for Texas A&M women’s golf team. He helped guide the Aggies to the 2015 SEC Championship.
The Aggies won the 2015 SEC Championship by shooting a school and tournament 54-hole record 13-under par. A&M’s Bianca Fabrizio and Maddie Szeryk finished 1-2 individually to capture conference champion and runner-up titles.
In his first five seasons at Texas A&M, he has helped the Aggies to two top 20 finishes nationally, including a 10th-place finish at the 2014 NCAA Championships. Five players have been selected All-Americans and nine have earned All-SEC honors since he came on board as a full-time assistant, while 17 players have been named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll. In addition, Szeryk was named SEC Freshman of the Year in 2015.
A native of Chickasha, Okla., McCombs attended Southwestern Oklahoma State earning a degree in Recreational Leadership while being a member of the varsity golf program from 1996-1998.
Following graduation, McCombs has served as an assistant golf professional in Georgia, Florida, Oklahoma and Texas.
John married Texas A&M head women’s golf coach Trelle McCombs in 2004.
