After missing most of the season while recovering from a back injury, made her first appearance of the season at Mississippi State on Nov. 8 as an outside hitter...Saw action in five matches and eight sets overall as an outside hitter on the left side...Helped lead the Texas A&M track and field team to the NCAA outdoor championship and a No. 1 final ranking...Became the first Aggie to win an NCAA title in the discus...After starting out with two fouls in her NCAA debut, threw 189-0 in the third round to take the lead...Her toss of 196-11 (60.02) in the fifth round topped the field by more than nine and a half feet and was the 10th best throw she has produced at Texas A&M as she completed the season undefeated by collegians through eight meets...Won the SEC title in the discus for the second consecutive year...Opened her SEC meet series with a then-career best throw of 204-2 (62.25)...In the final round, unleashed a school record and SEC Championship record toss of 208-8 (63.60), bettering her closest competitor by a staggering 33 feet...It was the best collegiate throw in 15 years and moved her to No. 6 on the all-time collegiate list...She also added 14-plus feet to the previous SEC Championship record of 194-4 set in 1994 by LSU’s Danyel Mitchell...Was one of 10 semifinalists for The Bowerman Award, an honor presented annually by the USTFCCCA to the most outstanding male and female collegiate track and field athletes in the nation...Defended her Texas Relays title with a heave of 198-10 (60.61), bettering the field by 24 feet and coming within four inches of the meet record...It was her sixth win at the Texas Relays over the past four seasons...Opened the 2014 outdoor season with a victory at the UTSA Texas Challenge Invitational in San Antonio, reaching a distance of 182-10...Also won the Stanford Invitational (198-5), the Sun Angel meet, where Vaughan improved her then school record to 199-3, and the Texas State’s Bobcat Classic (177-9), as well as the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds (194.0)...Did not compete during the indoor track and field season.

Appeared in nine matches and 14 sets overall, typically coming in off the bench to play on either the left or right side...Averaged 1.64 kills and 1.82 points per set for the full season...Made her career debut in the Aggies’ sweep of North Dakota in the third match of the season...Had back-to-back career-high performances in A&M’s wins against Mississippi State and Arkansas...Had a six-kill, seven-point performance in two sets in the Aggies’ sweep against the Bulldogs on Oct. 7...Provided a crucial spark off the bench in A&M’s pivotal 3-2 win at Arkansas’ Barnhill Arena on Oct. 12, tallying eight kills and 9.5 points in four sets...The two-sport athlete was named the Texas A&M Freshman Athlete of the Year...Was the SEC champion in the discus with a throw of 185-10 (56.65), bettering the field by eight feet, six inches...Broke the Texas A&M school record in the discus in her first outdoor meet with a throw of 185-0 (56.40) and improved it to 193-4 (58.93) during the course of the season...Currently has the top eight performances in school history above the previous school record of 176-10 set in 2003, including six throws in her first outdoor meet that each topped the previous record...After finishing second to a professional athlete at Arizona State’s Castillo Invitational, Vaughan recorded seven consecutive victories in the discus...Was undefeated by collegians until suffering a back injury and posting three fouls at the NCAA West preliminary round...Placed 12th in the SEC shot put during the indoor season with a mark of 48-6 (14.78)...Produced an indoor career best of 48-10 (14.88) to place fourth at the Texas A&M Invitational...Her 48-10 mark ranks No. 6 on the A&M all-time indoor list...Improved her outdoor shot put career best to 51-9 ? PREVIOUS ATHLETIC EXPERIENCE
Was a four-year starter at both outside hitter and middle blocker, playing her first two years at Azle High School before moving to Mansfield Legacy High School and playing for coach Jennifer Chandler...After being named to the all-district second team as a freshman, earned first-team honors each of her last three years...Was named District 6-4A Most Valuable Blocker and Defensive Player of the Year as a sophomore at Azle and the District 5-5A Hitter of the Year as a senior at Legacy...As a junior, broke all of Legacy's blocking records and all but one hitting record...Was a three-time member of the academic all-district team...Played club ball for Tejas and coach Val Warrior...A world-class junior discus thrower, is a two-time bronze medalist at the World Junior Championships (2012, 2011)...Placed fourth at the 2012 USA Olympic Trials...Threw 198 feet 9 inches at 2012 USA Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships, setting the American junior record for the second time during the event...One of only two girls in U.S. prep history to throw discus more than 190 feet, and Vaughan accomplished the feat five times...Named the 2012 Gatorade National Girls Track and Field Athlete of the Year and also was named the? 2012 Gatorade Texas Girls Track and Field Athlete of the Year...Is a two-time state high school 5A champion in the discus and also won the 4A state title as a sophomore at Azle...At the 2012 state meet, set the state high school record in the discus with a throw of 187-10, crushing the previous record of 163-06 set in 2005...The performance also was better than the winning throw of 178-05 at the 2012 Big 12 Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which was taking place that same weekend...Was the 2012 high school state champion in the shot put after taking silver in both 2011 and 2010...Was the Most Outstanding Athlete at the 2012 Texas Relays...Was the 2011 USA Junior Outdoor Track and Field champion in the discus (165-5).

Shelbi JoDae Vaughan is the daughter of Kirk Vaughan and Rhonda Walker...Has two older brothers, Brandon and Cody...Is the first person in her family to go to a university and to play sports beyond the high school level...Began playing volleyball when she was 12 years old...High school fans nicknamed her "The Hammer"...Made official recruiting trips to Texas A&M and Texas Tech...Chose to sign with the Aggies because she fell in love with everything about A&M...Picked the No. 13 jersey because "it was my mom's favorite number and then became mine"...Lists sports as her hobby...Volunteers to feed the homeless the last Sunday of every month and also does volunteer work with special needs students...Plans to major in special education, career ambition is to be a special needs teacher and coach...Born August 24, 1994, in Weatherford, Texas.
