Brad Barnes joined the Athletics Compliance Office in May of 2002 and serves as Associate Athletics Director for Athletics Compliance. He oversees the education of and interpretations for Texas A&M’s student-athletes, coaches and staff on matters related to NCAA and Southeastern Conference rules.
Tasked with managing the Office of Athletics Compliance, Barnes is responsible for overseeing various aspects of Texas A&M’s Name, Image and Likeness program. He also oversees the Athletics Department’s Professional Sports Counseling Panel, the agent interview program and elite student-athlete disability insurance matters. Barnes is responsible for managing all enforcement-related issues. Barnes is also a recipient of the President’s Meritorious Service Award, which he received in 2018.
Before joining the compliance office, he worked in NCAA compliance for Midwestern State University in 2000 and at Iowa State University from 2000-02.
Respected by his peers, Barnes is a member of the National Association for Athletics Compliance and has been an invited speaker at its annual convention.
A native of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Barnes earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in English in 1997 and his Juris Doctorate in 2000, both from the University of Oklahoma. Barnes, the son of Larry and Rita Barnes, is married to the former Emilie Pawlowski, a graduate of Sam Houston State University. In his spare time, he enjoys playing music, reading and traveling.
