Brandon Collins joined the athletics department in February of 2020 as Assistant Director of Athletic Communications for Aggie women’s basketball and women’s golf and was elevated to Associate Director in the summer of 2023.
Collins spearheaded the social and promotion efforts of the 2021 Southeastern Conference regular season champion women's basketball team at A&M. Also, helped elevate the brands of All-Americans N'dea Jones and Aaliyah Wilson during their time at A&M. He led the social media campaign and media requests of legendary head coach Gary Blair's final season during the 2021-22 campaign and his Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame enshrinement in 2023.
After Blair's retirement, Collins took the lead on the announcement and social push for the hiring of Joni Taylor as his successor. He helped assist in the planning and execution of her introductory press conference, which was televised live on the SEC Network. Collins led the publicity efforts of Taylor and her squad to two quarterfinal appearances at the SEC Tournament and Taylor's journey to gold as an assistant coach with the United States Women's National Team at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
He elevated the social presence of the women's golf program where head coach Gerrod Chadwell led the program to an SEC title and three-straight NCAA quarterfinal berths in the first three years under Chadwell's leadership. At the 2024 NCAA Championships, Collins helped promote the first individual National Champion in program history as Adela Cernousek won the 2024 crown en route to the greatest individual season for an Aggie golfer.
In 2023, Collins oversaw a student worker as the primary contact for the men's tennis program, assisting them in covering head coach Steve Denton's high-profile squad that advanced to the Sweet 16. He was also named as the Chair for the Texas A&M Awards Committee which aims to help highlight Aggie student-athletes and staff members by nominating for national, conference and campus awards.
Collins won a 2021-22 CoSIDA Fred Stabley Sr. National Award for his story "Radar", profiling the life and career Mike "Radar" Ricke who served over 40 years at Texas A&M. He was also a regional winner for "This Gallant Group", a feature about the 10th anniversary of the 2011 National Championship women's basketball team at A&M. In the 2023-24 iteration of the contest, Collins won district honors and national runner-up recognition for his feature on Hailee Cooper's collegiate journey in "Finding Her Way Home" in the "Athlete Profile - University Division" and was district runner-up for his coverage of the women's golf team's 2023 SEC Championship in "GIG 'EM BABYYYY".
Collins came to Aggieland from the Sun City of El Paso, Texas, where he served as a graduate assistant and the primary contact for volleyball, softball and rifle at UTEP from July of 2018 to January of 2020. While at UTEP, he pursued a master’s degree in leadership studies.
Before UTEP, Collins served as an intern in the LSU athletic communications office from December of 2017 until June of 2018. He assisted the communications office at sporting events such as women’s basketball, men’s basketball, gymnastics and football practices. His main duty was served as the official statistician during the 2018 LSU softball season.
The Katy, Texas, native graduated from Katy High School in 2012. After Katy, he went to LSU where he received his bachelor’s degree in sports administration in 2015, and earned a master’s in higher education administration in 2018. While at LSU, he served as an assistant basketball coach at the University Laboratory School from 2014-18, winning two state championships during his time with the Cubs.
He is married to the former Marla Ebert of Foley, Alabama. The couple resides in Bryan, Texas, and has a dog, Shaquille O'Beagle.
His parents are Sean Collins and Brenda Valero. He has six sisters Maegan Barin, Morghann Figueroa, Dr. Shelby Valero, Keaton Milburn, Emma Valero and Hannah Collins.
