Clay Smith arrived in Aggieland as the Director of Operations for Texas A&M men's basketball in May 2025 after two seasons at Ole Miss.
In his role, Smith orchestrates all phases of the daily operations, including monitoring the program’s budget, managing team travel, scholarships, housing, team compliance and oversight of managers and graduate assistants, as well as a number of other administrative duties.
He held the same role for the 2025-26 season at Ole Miss, overseeing travel logistics for away competitions, including flights and ground transportation, hotels, tickets and meals. He also coordinated recruiting visits and served as the primary liaison between men’s basketball and the athletics department, coordinating compliance, budgeting, academics and operations. In his first season on staff with the Rebels he was a graduate assistant, helping with player development workouts, scouting and coordination with the academic staff.
Following his time as a student manager at Mississippi State for the 2018-19 season, Smith coached high school basketball from 2019-24. He served as an assistant varsity coach at Oak Hill Academy and Starkville Academy prior to spending two years at Pearl High School.
Smith earned his bachelor's degree in education from Mississippi State in 2022.
