The Texas A&M men's basketball team opens its two-game exhibition schedule Thursday against the North Melbourne Giants at 7 p.m. at G. Rollie White Coliseum.
The Giants finished third in Australia's professional National Basketball League this season. One of the league's founding members, the Giants have won two championships and have been runners-up twice.
They are 0-4 on their American tour but have perhaps their best two players joining the team for the first time for the A&M game. David Stiff, a 6-8 forward considered to be an NBA prospect, and Patrick Reidy, a 6-6 forward, join the team for the remainder of its tour after playing six games with the Australian National Team.
North Melbourne lost to Baylor, 87-81, on Monday night after losing to Texas, 105-66, on Sunday. They lost to New Mexico State, 89-64, last Thursday and to Texas-El Paso, 83-55, on Saturday.
The Giants' leading scorer through four games is 6-1 guard Adam Barry, who is averaging 14.5 points and scored 27 against Baylor. Stephen Hoare, a 6-8 center, is averaging 13.8 points and leads the team in rebounding with a 7.0 average. Andrew Walter, a 6-1 guard/forward, is averaging 12.0 points and 5.8 rebounds.
The Aggies play their final exhibition game on Monday against Budocnost, Yugoslavia at 7 p.m. at GRW. The regular season begins on Saturday, Nov. 22 against Stephen F. Austin at 2:30 p.m. at GRW. The Lumberjacks are among the favorites for the Southland Conference title this season.
Individual game tickets are $9 for westside armchair and arena level seats, $7 for northend bench seats and $4 for A&M students without All-Sports Passes and students high school age and under. Season ticket packages range from $119 to $151 and include all 17 home games. For tickets, contact the Athletic Ticket Office at 845-2311.
