Former Texas A&M All-American Jeff Maggert will be a part of his second United States Ryder Cup team Sept. 26-28 at Valderrama Golf Club in Sotogrande, Spain.
Maggert finished seventh in the Ryder Cup point standings. The top 10 finishers in the point standings were automatic selections while U.S. captain Tom Kite made two at-large picks - Fred Couples and Lee Janzen.
Maggert was a member of the Ryder Cup team in 1995 when the U.S. lost to Europe, 14 ˝ to 13 ˝. Europe has won four of the last six Ryder Cup matches. Maggert had a 2-2 record at the 1997 Ryder Cup.
The 1997 Ryder Cup will be played outside the United States or Great Britain for the first time. The Valderrame Golf Club is an American-style, par 71 course originally created by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. and recently redesigned by Seve Ballesteros, who is the European captain this year.
