
Fullick, Palmer Qualify for U.S. Amateur

Texas A&M junior Clay Fullick (Baytown, Texas) will compete in the 1999 United States Amateur Golf Championship beginning Monday at Pebble Beach Golf Links and Spyglass Hill Golf Course in Pebble Beach, Calif.
Fullick won the sectional qualifier on Monday at Champions Golf Club in Houston by two strokes with a two-round total of 141. Shaun Helmle (Pasadena, Texas), who will transfer to A&M this fall from Sam Houston State, earned an alternate position with a 149 total.
Also making the field is former A&M standout Ryan Palmer (Amarillo, Texas), who captured the sectional qualifier in Amarillo on Monday with a 134 total.
The first two rounds of the U.S. Amateur on Monday and Tuesday will be stroke play and will be played at Pebble Beach and Spyglass Hill. The top 64 finishers advancing to the match play portion of the championship, which will be played exclusively at Pebble Beach, which is playing host to its fourth U.S. Amateur Championship. The last U.S. Amateur played at Pebble Beach was won by Jack Nicklaus in 1961.
Match play begins on Wednesday and will conclude with the finals on Sunday, August 22. Portions the match play rounds will be televised nationally on the following schedule:
