Postgame Quotes
Texas A&M head coach Melvin Watkins: "That was embarrassing. Not to take anything away from Birmingham, but we played so lifeless and with no emotion. This is the most embarrassed I've ever been around the game of basketball. We've only had two good practices this season. Our practices have been awful and our numbers are thin. We had no inside game today. We had 18 turnovers at the half. Our defense was doing a good job of stopping them, but then we'd go down and turn it over or do an illegal pick. We have zero leadership right now. We're going to work tomorrow morning at 5:30. We are so far away from being a team right now. We have to make some changes."
Birmingham-Southern head coach Duane Reboul: "In the early part of the game, they caused us a lot of turnovers. They set a tempo and we weren't able to break it until the second half. At halftime we talked about controlling the tempo and not playing their's. This is our first Division I victory as a D-I member, so it was historic for us. This is a big win. Early in the season, most teams don't practice against a zone defense. They're young and they probably spent more time practicing attacking a man-to-man defense than a zone."
