Postgame Quotes
Texas A&M Head Coach Melvin Watkins: "That was a much better performance. At halftime, what we wanted to do was forget about the score and see if we could continue to play with that intensity and continue to execute. This can still be a turning point. We're heading in the right direction. We're a team that looks forward, and I think we've learned our lesson. We've seen the difference in coming out and playing. Morris Brown is not a Big 12-type team, but they were a little more athletic than Birmingham Southern. Our guys did a good job defensively. We switched some guys on the perimeter, which caught them off guard. This is definitely a better feeling. I was concerned about how we would come out. We've had better practices, and I did see a carryover. Now, the question is can we go further. Having Tomas (Ress) back helps as well. He's the spirit of our team. He's an integral part of what we want to do. We wanted to get Bernard's (King) spirits back up to where he's having fun playing. I told him in the shootaround that if a shot's not going, there's so many other things he can do for this team, and I think he did that tonight."
Texas A&M junior guard Andy Leatherman: "We've been stressing intensity in practice. There's no question we have the talent, it's a matter of bringing intensity to the game and practice. We knew what we had to do. We knew we didn't have the intensity the other night. It was hard and upsetting. This is a turning point and a lesson for us all. We know that if you bring the intensity every day to practice, then you'll have it for the game."
Texas A&M sophomore guard Bernard King: "I'm still struggling to hit a shot, but overall our team effort was much better. This game was very important. Losing to Birmingham Southern, we knew we had to pick it up. I think we were fired up to play tonight. I think Morris Brown was much better than Birmingham Southern, we just played much better."
