Loyola Marymount shot a blazing 62.2 percent from the field to hand Texas A&M its first loss of the season by a score of 80-78 on Sunday at Reed Arena.
A&M (4-1) trailed 80-77 and had a chance to send the game into overtime when Bernard King was fouled on a three-point attempt with :01 left. King made the first free throw, missed the second and LMU (3-3) got the rebound when King intentionally missed the third free throw.
A&M took a 77-76 lead on Nick Anderson's jumper with 1:19 left, but LMU responded with two unanswered baskets in the final minute.
King and Anderson led the Aggies with 18 points each, with King adding eight assists. Jesse King added a career-high 16 points with Andy Slocum scored 10.
Keith Kincade led the Lions with 15 points, Robert Davis scored 14 and Greg Lakey added 12.
