Freshman guard Daryl Mason of Bryan, Texas, has returned to practice on probationary status while sophomore guard Michael Gardener of Detroit, Mich., remains on indefinite suspension, Texas A&M coach Melvin Watkins said Tuesday.
Mason and Gardener were suspended prior to the Oklahoma game on Jan. 5 in Norman and have not appeared in the Aggies' four Big 12 games. Mason had started in four of his last five games prior to the suspension and is averaging 4.2 points and 2.3 rebounds per game. Gardener started 11 of the first 12 games at point guard and is averaging 6.9 points and 2.6 assists per contest.
Watkins said although Mason has resumed practicing with the team, he would not make the trip to Austin for Wednesday's game against Texas. Watkins did not say when Mason would return to the lineup and also gave no indication when a final decision would be made regarding Gardener?s status.
