Texas A&M got 21 points and 12 rebounds from freshman Antoine Wright as the Aggies defeated Prairie View 83-78 in double overtime Saturday afternoon at the Nicks Building on the Prairie View campus.
The Aggies (5-1) have won four straight since a six-point loss at Miami on Nov. 26. Included in the Aggies' streak are wins over LSU and Tennessee.
A&M held a 10-point lead with just over two minutes left in regulation, but a 12-2 Panther run capped by a Gregory Burks lay-up with 12 seconds to play forced overtime. Burks scored 10 of Prairie View's 12 points down the stretch.
A Malachi Thurston 3-pointer with 40 seconds left in the first overtime tied the score at 71 and forced the second extra frame.
The Aggies took a five-point lead with 1:40 to go in the second overtime on a layup by Antoine Wright. Prairie View managed a bucket by Roderick Riley with 20 seconds on the clock to pull within three, but Bradley Jackson knocked down a pair of free throws with 10 seconds to go to seal the win.
Wright led the Aggies with 21 points and 12 rebounds in the win. Bernard King added 18 while Turner poured in 14.
Thurston led Prairie View with 24 points on the afternoon.
Texas A&M takes a break for final exams before returning to play on Sunday, Dec. 15 at 2 p.m. when they play host to Texas-San Antonio at Reed Arena.
