In the first game A&M plated their first run of the game in the second inning when designated player Lindsay Wilhelmson hit a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Jana James from third base. James advanced to third after leading off the inning by drawing a walk before stealing second and advancing to third on a single to left by senior Crystal Martin.
Second baseman Adrian Gregory added to the Aggie lead in the third inning when she took Islander pitcher Sarah Pauley deep over the center field fence for her sixth home run giving A&M a 2-0 lead and setting a new team record for home runs in a season. With the dinger the 2003 squad increased their home run total to 39 topping last years record-setting mark of 38.
Martin put three more runs on the board for A&M in the fourth inning when she hit the Ags second home run of the game bringing in Morgan Hebert and Jana James. Hebert was on second after pinch running for Kristin Gunter who legged out an infield single and advanced to second on James' single up the middle. Corpus retired the next three Aggie batters and went to the fifth inning down 5-0.
A&M continued to increase their lead in the fifth inning when Gregory hit her second home run of the game down the right field line and over the fence putting the Aggies up 6-0. James drove in the Aggies seventh and final run of the game when she hit a double to center scoring Ashley Awalt from second. Awalt was pinch running for Selena Collins who led the inning off with her Big 12 leading 39th walk of the season.
Junior Jessica Slataper earned her 11th win of the season as she pitched five scoreless innings allowing four hits and striking out five. Senior Lindsey Rippee replaced Slataper in the sixth and worked two hitless innings striking out two of the seven batters she faced and closing out the Aggies 31st win of the year.
After hitting three home runs the Aggies ended the opening game of the double header with 41 home runs on the season setting a new team record.
In the second game A&M jumped on the Islanders early putting one run on the board in the bottom of the second when Crystal Martin hit an infield single to third scoring Rocky Spencer from third. Spencer advanced to third on a wild pitch by A&M-Corpus pitcher Dani Damel after walking to lead off the inning and moving to second when Selena Collins singled to center.
A&M put the Islanders away for good in the sixth inning as they increased their lead to 6-0 off of six hits and two errors. Martin got the Aggies rolling as she doubled to left-center and Wilhelmson quickly followed with a single to left field advancing to third when the third baseman threw the ball out of the infield while trying to pick her off. Martin scored on the miscue. Sherah Atkins came into pinch run for Wilhelmson while Kristin Gunter pinch hit for Lindsay Park. After Gunter drew a walk she was substituted for Ashley Awalt who immediately stole second putting two Aggies in scoring position. Nicole Robinson stepped into the box to pinch hit for Jennifer Davis and delivered a double down the right field line that scored Atkins and Awalt increasing the lead to 4-0. Gregory then stepped in and hit a double that scored Robinson from second. She advanced to third on the play when the left fielder made a throwing error trying to get the ball in from the outfield. Gregory closed out the scoring for A&M on a Spencer single bringing in the Aggies sixth and final run of the game.
A&M-Corpus Christi attempted to make a comeback in the seventh when they put one run across but could not muster any others as they left two runners stranded.
Junior Lindsay Wilhelmson pitched the complete game striking out five, walking three and only allowing one run on seven Islander hits.
The Aggies take the field again on Saturday when they play host to Big 12 rival Iowa State. The teams will play a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the Aggie Softball Complex.
