Todd Holloway, who played more minutes than any basketball player in Texas A&M history, died of a heart attack on Wednesday in his hometown of Albany, N.Y. Holloway was 39.
"Todd was one of the greatest competitors I ever coached," former A&M coach Shelby Metcalf said. "Everybody on the team really liked him and he was very popular around campus. He probably won more games for us in the last 10 seconds than anyone else on the team. He didn't mind taking responsibility when the game was on the line."
Holloway, a 6-foot guard, played in 119 games, starting in 112. He played a school record 4,071 minutes and still owns the record for career steals in conference play with 116. Holloway is ranked in the top 10 in school history in points (9th, 1,331), assists (4th, 491) and steals (2nd, 208). He was a member of A&M's SWC championship team in 1986 and played in the 1986 NIT and the 1987 NCAA Tournament.
Holloway is survived by two sons -- Tayon (20) and Keyshaun (12).
The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Wilborn Temple, 121 Jay St., Albany, NY 12210. Viewing will be Monday from 3-6 p.m. at the funeral home and Tuesday at the church from 9-11 a.m.
