Junior lefty Zach Jackson tossed a no-hitter and catcher Craig Stinson drove in six runs to lead No. 21 Texas A&M to a 15-0, seven-inning win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in front of 4,095 fans at Olsen Field.
Jackson (1-0) faced one batter over the minimum and the only Islander hitter to reach was Charles Carter, who walked in the fifth. Jackson, a transfer from the University of Louisville retired eight men by way of a strikeout.
The only legitimate bid for an A&M-CC hit came in the fifth when cleanup hitter Trey Hearne chopped a ball over Jackson's head and toward the bag at second. Second baseman Erik Schindewolf covered the necessary territory and throwing across his body, nailed Hearne by a half of a step at first.
The no-hitter was the tenth in Texas A&M history and the first since Ryan Rupe, Shane King and Chris Scarcella combined to no hit UT-Pan American on opening day in 1998. The last solo no-hitter was thrown by Matt Blank in the Aggies' 1996 home opener - also against UT-Pan American.
Stinson led the way offensively for the Aggies as he went 3-for-4 with six RBI and a run scored.
The Aggies jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first. Cliff Pennington walked and scored a double to right center by Cory Patton. Patton later scored on a bloop single to center by Coby Mavroulis. John Infante drove in Mavroulis with a single to left, making the score 3-0 after one complete inning.
A&M extended its lead in the bottom of the second, scoring seven runs on five hits. Patton's second double in as many at bats plated Austin Boggs, who singled in his first plate appearance as an Aggie. After Andrew Baldwin drove in a run with a single and Eric Scheidt walked with the bases loaded, Craig Stinson doubled to clear the bases and make the score 10-0.
The Aggies tacked on four more runs in the third to increase their lead to 14-0. A pair of Islander errors and a two-RBI triple by Stinson did the damage in the inning.
A two-out single by Stinson in the fifth scored Baldwin increased the A&M lead to 15-0.
Stinson, Patton, Baldwin, Infante and Boggs all had at least two hits in the run-rule shortened contest.
Corpus Christi starter Scott Walker (1-1) suffered the loss, allowing 10 earned runs on eight hits in his 1.2 innings of work.
