Justin Moore allowed two hits over eight complete innings to lead No. 21 Texas A&M to a 8-0 win over South Alabama in front of 5,405 fans at Olsen Field.
Moore (1-0) dominated the Jaguars' lineup, striking out five and walking just one. Moore was efficient, needing just 94 pitches to record 24 outs.
Jason Meyer pitched a hitless ninth and struck out two to end the game. South Alabama had just five men reach with no runner advancing past first base.
With the win, the Aggies improved to a perfect 6-0 while USA dropped to 0-2.
South Alabama starter Joey Doan (0-1) held the Aggies scoreless through the first five frames. The true freshman lasted six complete innings allowing two runs in first collegiate outing.
The Aggies struck first in the bottom of the sixth with a pair of runs. With two outs, Doan walked Coby Mavroulis and Andrew Baldwin singled. John Infante delivered an RBI single to left to plate Mavroulis. Infante and Baldwin stole third and second, respectively. USA catcher Tim Land's throw sailed into left field, allowing Infante to trot home.
P.J. Walters replaced Doan to start the seventh and surrendered an unearned run in the eighth. After retiring the first two men he faced, Erik Schindewolf reached on a fielding error and advanced to third on a single by Cliff Pennington. Patton slapped a single into right field, scoring Schidewolf and giving the Aggies a three-run lead.
The flood gates opened in the eighth, With two outs and one runner on, Texas A&M rattled off six consecutive hits to score five runs and take a 8-0 lead.
Pennington collected three hits for Texas A&M, while Schindewolf, Patton, Mavroulis, Baldwin and Infante each collected a pair of hits.
The series will conclude on Sunday with first pitch set for 1 p.m. at Olsen Field.
