Aggies Complete Series Sweep of Santa Clara

Justin Ruggiano's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth scored Travis Bartek and earned No. 12 Texas A&M a 5-4 win over Santa Clara in front of 3,570 fans at Olsen Field.
Bartek walked to start the ninth and moved to second on a throwing error by Santa Clara catcher Matt McColgen on an attempted sacrifice bunt. Bartek moved to third on a fielder's choice. After Santa Clara reliever Anthony Rea intentionally walked Cory Patton to load the bases and set up the double play, Ruggiano lifted a ball in to medium center to end the game.
With the win, the Aggies moved to 18-2 on the season while Santa Clara dropped to 11-11.
Kyle Marlatt pitched the final 1.1 innings and struck out two to earn his second win of the season.
Erik Schindewolf's two-out single in the bottom of the third scored Craig Stinson for the game's first run. Stinson singled with one out and moved to second on a groundout by Bartek.
Santa Clara took its first lead of the series in the top of the fourth when they pushed three runs across. With runners on second and third and no outs, A&M starter Robert Ray coaxed a strikeout and a weak pop up to shortstop Cliff Pennington in shallow left. Mark Folgner delivered a two-out single to left and David Mandley doubled to make the score 3-1.
Cory Patton's double in the bottom of the fifth cleared the bags to regain the lead for A&M, 4-3. Stinson, Schindewolf and Pennington all singled to load the bases.
The Broncos tied the game in the sixth on Mandley's second RBI double of the game
Austin Boggs and Stinson each collected three hits for the Aggies.
The Aggies return to action this Tuesday, March 16, when they play Lamar. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. at Vincent-Beck Stadium in Beaumont.
