No. 9 Aggies Cruise to 12-3 Win Over Lamar

Cliff Pennington went 2-for-4 and drove in three runs to lead No. 9 Texas A&M to a 12-3 win over Lamar at Vincent-Beck Stadium.
With the win, the Aggies improved to 19-2 while the Cardinals dropped to 15-5.
Pennington hit a two-run homer - his team-leading third of the season - in the top of the first off Lamar starter Derrick Gordon (2-1) to give the Aggies the initial lead. The dinger also scored Erik Schindewolf who walked to lead off the inning.
The Aggies stretched the lead to 7-0 in the top of the fourth when they scored five runs on four hits off three different Lamar pitchers. Craig Stinson delivered a two-RBI single, Schindewolf drove in two runs with a double, and Pennington drove in his third run of the game with a single.
A&M scored two more runs in the fifth. Coby Mavroulis singled with one out and a failed pickoff attempt allowed him to move to third. Andrew Baldwin doubled to plate Mavroulis, before scoring on two consecutive wild pitches by Lamar reliever Chris Buechner.
Lamar committed three errors in the top of the sixth as the Aggies scored three runs on just two hits to make the score 12-0. Eric Scheidt had the only RBI of the inning with an infield single.
Aggie starter Jon Michael Cline (2-0) allowed just one hit in his five innings of work to earn his second win of the season in only his second outing of the year.
John-Austin Emmons hit a two-run homerun off A&M reliever Brent Jackson in the bottom of the eighth and Michael Ambort singled in a run in the ninth to make the score 12-3.
The Aggies return to action this Wednesday, March 17, when they host Sam Houston. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. at Olsen Field.
