October 13, 2005
The Texas A&M men's basketball team will play 18 homes games in 2005-06, highlighted by non-conference visits from Auburn, Penn State and Tulane and Big 12 games against five teams that went to the 2005 NCAA Tournament.
The Aggies are coming off a thrilling 21-10 season in which they won two postseason NIT games and set every school attendance record. A&M had the nation's most improved team and ranked third nationally in increased attendance. The Aggies went 17-3 at home, tying for the second most home victories in the country. A&M returns four starters and seven lettermen.
The Aggies play their first 10 non-conference games at home, starting with Southern on Nov. 20. The home stand concludes with a New Year's Eve game against Northwestern State on Dec. 31. A&M also will play exhibition games on Nov. 5 and Nov. 12.
The Aggies play their lone non-conference road game on Jan. 3 against Pacific in Stockton, Calif. The Tigers finished 27-4 last year and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament after winning the Big West Conference with a perfect 18-0 mark.
The Aggies will play Big 12 South Division opponents Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma and Baylor twice each on a home-and-home basis. A&M faces North Division teams Kansas State, Missouri and Iowa State on the road and Kansas, Nebraska and Colorado at home.
Kansas, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Iowa State, Texas Tech and Texas went to the NCAA Tournament last season while Missouri went to the NIT.
The Big 12 Tournament will be March 9-12 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.
