Texas A&M right-hander Amanda Scarborough could not have scripted a better performance in her first career start as she threw a five-inning no-hit shutout in the No. 23 Aggies' 8-0 win over North Texas. Texas A&M (1-0) run-ruled the Mean Green (0-1) off the strength of two multi-run homeruns in front of 705 fans, including 305 students, at the Aggie Softball Complex.
Shortstop Adrian Gregory (Livingston, Texas) hit a first-inning three-run homerun and freshman first baseman Megan Gibson (Spring, Texas) added a three-run shot in the fourth that landed in the Reed Arena parking lot giving Scarborough (Magnolia, Texas) more than enough run support.
With no outs in the first, Gregory (Livingston, Texas) took the 1-1 delivery and deposited it over the center field fence scoring third baseman Jamie Hinshaw (Missouri City, Texas) and left fielder Jana James (Mesquite, Texas).
Gibson's three run blast plated James and Gregory after they reached base a triple and a walk, respectively.
Seniors James and Gregory finished the game off in the bottom of the fifth when James doubled to left center before scoring when the North Texas centerfielder made a fielding error on Gregory's blooper to right-center.
Jana James was named the State Farm Player of the Game after going 4-for-4, with an RBI, three runs scored and two stolen bases. Included in her four-for-four performance was a triple, a double and two singles.
The Aggies held North Texas to only two baserunners with neither runner advancing past second.
A&M improved to 2-0 all-time against North Texas. They defeated the Mean Green., 6-1, in last season's opening game.
Seven different Aggies recorded a hit in the game totaling 10 hits.
The Aggies will take the field again on Wednesday when they host UT-San Antonio in a doubleheader at the Aggie Softball Complex. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
