
Scarborough, Gibson Earn All-America Honors

Texas A&M freshmen softball players Amanda Scarborough and Megan Gibson were named to the NFCA All-America teams, the association announced Thursday.
"This is a great honor for both of these players, commented A&M head coach Jo Evans. "Amanda and Megan proved that they are incredible athletes and are certainly deserving of this honor. It is really exciting to have two freshmen contribute in such a big way and then be recognized for it on the national level."
Scarborough (Magnolia, Texas) was named the the NFCA All-America first team as a utility player after posting a 26-2 mark and a 0.73 ERA in the circle while hitting .405 with 11 home runs, 43 RBI and a .719 slugging percentage. Scarborough posted an 11-1 mark and a .410 batting average in conference play while leading the No. 5 Aggies to the Big 12 Regular Season title. She was named to the All-Big 12 first team and earned two Big 12 Pitcher of the Week awards, two National Player of the Week awards and was named the Big 12 Player and Freshman of the Year.
Gibson (Spring, Texas), named to the NFCA All-America second team, helped lead the Aggies to the conference crown by co-leading the nation's best hitting team with a .405 average while posting a conference-high 18 home runs a .823 slugging percentage while driving in 57 RBI. A first-team All-Big 12 performer, Gibson hit .321 while hitting three home runs and driving in 15 runs in league action.
Scarborough became the first Aggie to earn first-team All-America honors since Kendall Richards in 1996, while both Scarborough and Gibson became the first Aggie freshmen to earn All-America accolades since Julie Smith in 1987 and just the fourth and fifth, respectively, in school history.
