Former Texas A&M standout Antoine Wright was drafted by the New Jersey Nets with the 15th pick in the first round of Tuesday's NBA Draft.
Wright is the highest NBA Draft pick ever produced by the Aggies. Sonny Parker was taken by the Golden State Warriors with the 17th pick in 1976. Wright is the first A&M player to be drafted since Winston Crite was a third-round choice by the Phoenix Suns in 1987.
"Antoine has worked a long time for this day and we are all just so happy for him," A&M coach Billy Gillispie said. "We hate to lose him from our team, but his coaches and teammates are thrilled for him. He has matured into a fine young person as well as a fine basketball player."
Wright earned first-team All-Big 12 honors as a junior after averaging 17.8 points, 6.0 rebounds and leading the conference in three-point shooting at 44.7 percent.
Wright is the second A&M player to be drafted by the Nets. Tyren Naulls was a fifth-round pick by the Nets in 1983.
