
Aggies Rally to Fifth Place Finish at Southern Highlands Collegiate

The No. 25-ranked Texas A&M men's golf team carded a 299 on Sunday, the second-best round of the day, and finished fifth at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Championship at Southern Highlands Golf Club.
A&M entered the final round in ninth place., but came back to finish ahead of five nationally ranked teams, including three top 10 squads.
No. 13 UNLV captured the title with an 879 total, followed by top-ranked Georgia (889), No. 2 Oklahoma State (899) and No. 3 Florida (900).
The Aggies (303-300-299=902) tied for fifth with No. 15 Clemson and No. 19 Arizona State, finishing ahead of No. 5 UCLA (904), No. 4 Georgia Tech (911), No. 10 Duke (920), Washington (925), No. 18 New Mexico (930), Texas (931), No. 16 Wake Forest (934) and Arizona (943).
UNLV's Matt Kinsinger won the individual crown with a two-under-par 76-69-69=214 total. UNLV's Seung-su Han (74-72-71=217) and Oklahoma State's Pablo Martin (73-71-73=217) tied for second.
A&M sophomore Robert Gates tied for fifth at 75-75-71=221. Sophomore Martin Piller (80-73-73=226) tied for 16th, freshman Bronson Burgoon (75-77-77=229) tied for 27th, senior Jerad Harklau (77-75-78=230) tied for 30th and senior Andrew Parr (76-78-81=235) tied for 57th.
"We played really good golf today, especially the first 15 holes," A&M coach J.T. Higgins said. "We made up a lot of ground on a lot of good teams. This is a really good finish that should give our guys confidence. Our play today is more indicative of the way we can play."
