Aggies Fall to OSU in Series Opener

Texas A&M battled back from a four-run deficit on Friday night, but Oklahoma State scored the game-winner in the bottom of the ninth to defeat the Aggies, 10-9, before a season-high 2,156 fans here at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
Trailing 9-5 and heading to the top of the seventh, the Aggies mounted a comeback and would eventually tie the game in the eighth.
Jose Salazar lifted a sacrifice fly to score Austin Boggs in the seventh and RBIs by Boggs, Jake Vasquez and Jess Buenger in the eighth ignited the comeback and made the score 9-9.
Adam Carr started the ninth with a lead off triple over the head of Blake Stouffer in right before Keanon Simon lifted a fly ball to left to score the winning run.
?It is definitely a difficult loss to take tonight,? A&M head coach Rob Childress. ?I am proud of the way we fought back and got back into the game offensively. Things are really starting to come together offensively and we need to try and put all the phases of the game together at one time.?
With the loss, A&M dropped to 18-11 overall and to 2-5 in Big 12 play. OSU improved to 16-7 and 1-3.
The A&M offense pounded out 14 hits, including three by Vasquez and Josh Stinson. Beunger and Salazar each added two.
A&M took the lead in the top of the second with two runs on three singles off OSU starter Oliver Odle. Vasquez started the inning with a single, moved to second on a groundout by Ryan Hill and to third on a single to left by Salazar, who was able to advance to second on the throw to the plate. Hill scored and Salazar reached third on RBI groundout by Kyle Colligan. Stinson then delivered a RBI single to center.
The Aggies stretched their lead in the top of the fourth with a pair of solo homers by Adam Hale and Vasquez. It was first of the year for Hale. Vasquez?™s third homer of the year was his third in as many games. A&M has hit 10 homers on the season and six of them have been in the last three games.
The Cowboys answered with a run in the bottom of the third to cut the A&M lead to 4-1. Shelby Ford doubled with one out, moved to third on a groundout and scored on a wild pitch by A&M starter Austin Creps.
A pair of consecutive two-out, extra-base hits by the Aggies in the top of the fourth increased the A&M lead to 5-1. Stinson doubled to right and Parker Dalton tripled in the gap in right center to plate the run.
A six-run fourth gave the Cowboys their first lead of the game, 7-5. Simon had an RBI double and Matt Clarkson, John Schindler and Ty Wright had RBI singles. Shelby Ford drove in two runs with a single.
Creps was lifted after allowing seven runs ?- six earned ?- on 10 hits in four-complete innings. Coming into the game Creps had allowed only four earned runs in 47 2/3 innings on the mound.
OSU tallied two unearned runs in the sixth to increase its lead to 9-5. A two-out, two-RBI single by Wright off A&M reliever Kyle Thebeau did the damage.
Thebeau (3-3) shouldered the loss, allowing the run in the ninth. Jordy Mercer (3-0) retired the side in the ninth for OSU to earn the win.
Game two of the three-game series will be played Saturday at 2 p.m.
