John Infante went two-for-three on Tuesday night, but No. 15 Texas A&M dropped a 6-4 decision to Texas State at Dell Diamond.
With the loss, the Aggies dropped to 13-3 while the Bobcats improved to 6-11.
TSU took the early lead in the bottom of the second with two runs off A&M starter Chance Corgan. David Wood doubled to start the inning and moved to third on an infield single by Kyle Jones. A pair of RBI singles by Casey Guest and Thomas Field was enough to chase Corgan from the game.
A&M tied the game in the top of the fourth. Austin Boggs doubled off the wall in straight-away center and Jake Vasquez was hit by TSU starter Ryan Bennett. Craig Stinson reached on a bunt single, and Boggs scored and Vasquez moved to third on a throwing error by catcher Dawid Bednarek. Adam Hale then drove in Vasquez with a groundout.
Texas State regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth with back-to-back homers. The first was a three-run shot by Heath Keel and the second was a solo job by Aaron Garza.
The Aggies cut the Bobcat lead to 6-3 in the top of the seventh with a sacrifice fly to left by Blake Stouffer.
A&M scored again in the top of the eighth to cut the lead to 6-4. With runners on first and third and two outs, Infante lifted a high fly to shallow left that was dropped by left fielder Kyle Jones, allowing Adam Hale to score.
A&M reliever Matt Ueckert (3-1) suffered the loss, while Justin Fiske (2-1) threw 2 2/3 innings of relief to earn the win.
Texas A&M returns to action this Friday through Monday at the UTSA Baseball Express Collegiate Classic at Wolff Stadium in San Antonio. The Aggies open the tournament against Notre Dame on Friday at 7 p.m.
