Aggie Baseball Drops Midweek Game to Bobcats

Jordan Chambless faced the minimum six batters in the final two innings on Tuesday night, but it was not enough as Texas State defeated Texas A&M, 5-1, at Olsen Field.
With the loss, the Aggies dropped to 19-17 while Texas State improved to 17-20.
The Bobcats took the lead in the top of the fourth with three runs off A&M starter Kyle Nicholson. With two outs and nobody on, Starting pitcher David Wood singled and Heath Keel walked. Back-to-back doubles by Pat Crumpton and Dawid Bednarek drove in the three runs.
Jarod Garza (0-1), Texas State?™s fifth pitcher of the game, earned the win by pitching out of a jam in the sixth. Reliever Chris Armijo walked the first two men he faced before giving way to Garza, who escaped the inning with no damage.
Nicholson (3-4) shouldered the loss, allowing three runs on four hits.
Texas State added two more runs ?- both unearned ?- in the top of the seventh to increase its lead to 5-0. RBI singles by Cassidy Dresch and Kyle Jones did the damage.
The Aggies broke the Bobcats?™ shutout bid when Jose Salazar singled to score Jake Vasquez in the ninth. The run was scored off Texas State?™s eighth pitcher of the night, Kyle Gembler.
The Aggies return to Big 12 action this weekend with a three-game series at No. 4 Nebraska. The series opener is Thursday at 6:35 p.m. at Haymarket Park.
