Ryan Hill went two-for- four with a home run on Friday night, but a six-run fourth was the difference as Dallas Baptist defeated Texas A&M, 6-1, at Olsen Field.
With the loss, Texas A&M dropped to 22-27, while Dallas Baptist improved to 31-17.
The second game of the two-game set will be played Saturday at 7 p.m. Saturday will be Military Appreciation Night and fans are encouraged to come early for the pregame festivities.
The Patriots sent 11 men to the plate and used five hits, two hit batters, a wild pitch and a walk in the top of the fourth to take the lead, 6-0. A bases-loaded double by Trevor Head plated two runs, Cody Montgomery scored on a wild pitch, Austin Krum drove in a run when he was hit by a pitch and Jeremy Goldschmeding drove in the final two runs with a bloop single to left.
Kyle Colligan?™s bunt single in the eighth improved his hitting streak to seven games. He is 13-for-30 with eight RBI during the streak.
DBU starting pitcher Ricky Sparks (2-0) earned the win throwing seven shutout innings. He allowed four hits, struck out five and walked four.
A&M starter Jason Meyer (2-3) shouldered the loss, allowing six runs on five hits in six-complete innings. He struck out six walked two and hit two.
Hart Hering fanned three hitters in 1 2/3 innings of relief for the Aggies, while Luke Anders retired the only mane he faced and Jordan Chambless threw a scoreless ninth.
