Texas A&M's Josh Carter scored 19 points with 14 rebounds to lead Athletes in Action to a 79-69 victory over Taiwan in the championship game of the 28th William Jones Cup on Sunday at the Taipei Physical Education College Gym.
AIA jumped to a 12-2 lead just four minutes into the game and led 24-16 after the first quarter. Taiwan rallied in the second quarter to tie the game, 26-26, but AIA regained control and led the rest of the way.
AIA posted a 57-37 rebounding margin, with a whopping 24-7 edge on the offensive glass.
New Mexico's Troy DeVries scored 20 points with 11 rebounds for the American team. A&M's Dominique Kirk added nine points.
"I am grateful we won tonight," AIA Coach Mike Jarvis said. "Our rebounding was the difference in allowing us to get second and sometimes fourth-chance shots."
