Aggie All-American Amanda Scarborough drove in four runs off two doubles and pitched a complete game in the circle to lead the White team past Maroon 10-5 in game two of the best-of-three series at the Aggie Softball Complex.
The Maroon team took an early 1-0 lead in the second when Emily Shadow walked Erin Glasco and two more Maroon batters. With the bases loaded, Shadow threw a wild pitch that allowed Glasco to come home.
The White team countered, posting a three-run third inning. With one out, Jami Lobpries lined a double and came home on a single by Rhiannon Kleising. Kleising moved to second on a single by Holly Ridley, both Kleising and Ridley were able to move up a base on a fielding error and come home on an infield single by Alex Reynolds.
Andrea Tovar sparked another scoring attack for the White team, leading off the fourth with a single. Kelsey Spittler and Lobpries followed suit, loading the bases for Scarborough?™s first double of the day, clearing the bases for three RBIs. Scarborough was brought in on an infield grounder by Holly Ridley, giving White a commanding 7-1 lead.
However, Maroon would not lay down quietly, posting three runs of its own in the bottom half of the frame. Two fielding errors, a fielder?™s choice and a single allowed Natalie Villareal, Jamie Hinshaw and Megan Gibson to all touch home, cutting White?™s lead to 7-4.
Scarborough would register her second RBI double in the fifth inning, scoring Lobpries who reached on a walk.
Villareal drilled a single to right field in the home half of the fifth, but a strikeout and groundout ended Maroon?™s chances to chip away at White?™s 8-5 lead.
Spittler and Lobpries sealed White?™s victory with back-to-back solo homeruns in the seventh, tying the series at one-all and forcing a third game, winner takes all.
Shadow was charged with the loss for the Maroon team, allowing seven runs in three innings of work. Gibson logged the remaining four innings, giving up three runs on three hits. The senior struck out two batters.
Scarborough worked all seven innings allowing five runs on five hits. She walked three and struck out two to earn the victory.
Thursday?™s tiebreaker will begin at 4:20 p.m. at the Aggie Softball Complex.
