The No. 13 Texas A&M baseball team delivered four two-out RBIs Tuesday night as the Aggies defeated Texas-San Antonio, 6-2, at Olsen Field.
?I was really proud of the way we pitched tonight,? A&M head coach Rob Childress said. ?In the third inning we got two big two-out hits and that set the tone for the game. We didn?™t have much energy tonight, but we beat a really good team that is at the top of their conference.?
With the win, Texas A&M improved to 28-7 overall, while UTSA dropped to 19-14. The Aggies return to Big 12 action this weekend when they travel to Columbia, Mo., for a three-game series against the Tigers.
Luke Anders gave the Aggies the early lead with a lead-off home run in the bottom of the second. It was his sixth long ball of the year and it came off UTSA starting pitcher J.T. Mackey.
A&M stretched its lead to 4-0 in the third. Kyle Colligan drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to left and Anders and Craig Stinson each drove in runs with back-to-back two-out singles.
A&M starter Jason Meyer (4-0) faced just one batter over the minimum in a three-inning predetermined start. He struck out two and walked one.
In the fourth, the Roadrunners got on the board with a run off reliever Scott Migl. Tim Palincsar scored, who started the inning with a double, scored on a single by Trent Lockwood.
Ben Feltner singled through the left side with two outs to score pinch runner Brian Ruggiano in the sixth to make the score 5-1. Feltner was then thrown out trying to steal second. He had stolen all 22 bases he attempted this year.
Brandon Hicks delivered a two-out single in the eight to increase the A&M lead to 6-1. He extended his hitting streak to 17 games with a single in the first.
Freshman pitcher Clayton Ehlert saw his first collegiate action and struck out four in two innings of mound work.
Mackey (4-1) lasted three-complete innings and allowed four runs on six hits. He did not record a strikeout and walked one A&M hitter.
