Luke Anders?™ double to left center in the bottom of the 12th scored Blake Stouffer from first on Thursday night to earn No. 11 Texas A&M an 11-10 win over Dallas Baptist at Olsen Field.
Stouffer reached on a single and went 5-for-5 with two doubles, three runs scored and four RBI to lead the Aggie offensive attack. Brandon Hicks went 3-for-6 with four RBI and was only a single short of hitting for the cycle.
?Dallas Baptist has a very good team and I have the utmost respect for them,? A&M head coach Rob Childress said. ?I was proud of what we did tonight. There is no quit in this team.?
Gary Campfield (1-0) did not allow a run in the final 2 1/3 innings to earn his first win.
With the win, the Aggies improved to 36-11 while the Patriots dropped to 25-21. The series resumes Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Olsen Field.
Just to get to extra innings the Aggies had to rally for two in the ninth because a grand slam by Evan Bigley in the top of the frame gave the Patriots a 10-8 lead. Dane Carter reached on an error by Austin Knight at short and scored on a one-out triple by Hicks, who later scored on a sacrifice fly by Stouffer to send the game to the 10th.
DBU took the initial lead in the top of the first off A&M starting pitcher Kyle Nicholson. Knight and Bigley each singled to put runners on first and third and Matt Tucker lifted a sacrifice fly to center to score the game?™s first run.
The Aggies answered with a run off Patriots starter Jordan Meaker to tie the game in the bottom of the first. Hicks doubled to left center, advanced on a wild pitch and scored on a single up the middle by Stouffer.
The Patriots regained the lead in the top of the third when JT Bloodworth singled and moved to third on a double by Austin Krum. A RBI groundout by Knight plated Bloodworth, but Nicholson got Bigley to strikeout and Tucker to fly out to limit the damage.
A&M answered again in the bottom of the third to tie the game at two. Ben Feltner singled and scored on a double to left center by Stouffer.
Trevor Head?™s 12th home run of the season in the top of the fourth, a two-run shot over the wall in left, gave DBU a 4-2 lead. The long ball also scored Nick Santos, who reached on a throwing error.
The Aggies took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the fourth on a three-run homer by Hicks. It was the ninth of the year for Hicks and it also plated Kirkland Rivers, who singled, and Carter, who drew a walk.
The lead was short-lived as a two-run homer in the top of the fifth by Garrett Baker, his 13th of the season, put the Patriots back on top.
A&M tied the game again in the bottom of the sixth with an unearned run. Back-to-back two-out hits by Stouffer and Anders put runners on first and third. Meaker was lifted in favor of Brett Lester, who walked Craig Stinson to load the bases. Daman Aaron reached on an error by Head at first, allowing Stouffer to score.
The Aggies took the lead in the bottom of the eighth with two runs. Feltner scored on a RBI double to left by Stouffer, who later scored on a fielder?™s choice by Aaron.
Nicholson left with an 8-6 lead after eight-complete innings and allowed six runs ?- five earned ?- on 10 hits. He fanned five and walked one.
Meaker lasted 5 2/3 innings and allowed six runs on 11 hits, while striking out four and issuing four free passes.
