
Softball Starts the 2008 Season Ranked No.2/3

The Texas A&M softball team earned a No. 2/3 ranking in the USA Today/NFCA Top 25 Preseason Poll and ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Preseason Polls respectively, the associations announced.
Defending national champion Arizona locked up the No. 1 spot in both polls receiving 27 of the 29 and 14 of the 20 first place votes. Arizona State, who finished at 54-17 last season, secured the No. 2 position in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate poll.
The Big 12 placed five teams in Top 25, A&M (2/3), Oklahoma (5), Baylor (8/9), Texas (22/T24) and Missouri (25/21).
In addition to the four conference opponents, A&M will face eight other teams listed in the preseason polls (Arizona (1), Northwestern (7/6), DePaul (10/8), Washington (11/14), Georgia Tech (17/18), Oregon State (18/19), Cal State Fullerton (21/T24) and Louisiana-Lafayette (24/20).
The Aggies return eight starters, including two-time All-Americans Amanda Scarborough and Megan Gibson, and nine letterwinners from its ?'07 squad that finished 46-14 and made its sixth appearance at the NCAA Women?™s College World Series.
A&M opens the 2008 season in Cathedral City, Calif. at the Cathedral City Kickoff (Feb. 8-10).
The Ags home opener is scheduled for Feb. 13 against Sam Houston State at 4 p.m. at the Aggie Softball Complex.
