COLORADO POST GAME QUOTES
HEAD COACH DAN HAWKINS
"We had too many missed opportunities in the first half. At halftime, we had a lot of opportunities left out there. We weren't able to finish it. The ultimate thing is to win the football game and turnovers won't get you there. I give A&M a lot of credit for that. On the 98-yard drive, Hansen was pretty gutty. A lot of it was him just running the football and a couple of good passes. On the last drive, we decided to go with Hansen because we needed some wheels. Our team did a great job of rebounding after our loss last week. Our guys kept coming and we strapped up and played hard. It just wasn't enough. A&M did a great job of putting pressure on the quarterback and intercepting the ball.
(on Rodney Stewart's injury) He broke his fibia on the horse collar. Demetrius (Sumler) and Darrell (Scott) are going to have to step up."
DEFENSIVE TACKLE GEORGE HYPOLITE
"Football is about making plays and not making plays. We should have gone into halftime up 28-0. They came out after halftime and made some big plays. They were making the same throws and the same runs; they just happened to make more plays in the second half. We need to show up tomorrow, learn from our mistakes and get a win against Iowa State."
QUARTERBACK CODY HAWKINS
"We came out of the gates okay. We got a score after a turnover and that was nice for us. The pivotal point of the game was the turnover on the goal line. Our guys did an awesome job fighting and staying focused. Me and Tyler (Hansen) work good together. The coaches do a great job putting us in the best position possible. I would have loved to have been the guy on the field at the end of the game. It was tough for me not to be out there. The coaches made the right call and Tyler did a great job in that situation. A&M made a great play on the interception. We weren't clicking quite as good as we should have. A couple of dropped balls and missed blocks put us in a little bit of a hole."
QUARTERBACK TYLER HANSEN
" The interception was a dumb mistake. The same exact thing happened at practice, with the same coverage, except the guy didn't pick it."
TEXAS A&M POSTGAME QUOTES
Mike Sherman
Head Coach
"They were playing very aggressive on us and we had to take some shots down the field. Fuller and Tannehill made some big plays for us down the field and that gave us the opportunity."
(On the TAMU offense) "I thought they came out and performed to their level of expectation in the second half."
(On the TAMU defense) "The major play that got us all day was the quarterback draw. We just could not tackle that quarterback-he kept eluding our tackles. I think in the second half we tackled much better, except for the quarterback. He kept eluding our tackles."
"Even though the yardage was not where I'd like it to be, the production was very good overall."
(On Hunter) "His interception at a critical time in the game-how timely was that? We've had a good group of freshmen that have contributed. He's done a good job and he's been a good safety, so we've just got to keep working with him."
"I felt bad going into halftime because I thought we played like crap. We were shooting ourselves in the foot. We had a little soul searching at halftime."
Jordan Pugh
Defensive Back
I thought it was big as far as momentum. Of course, I thought it was big because I made the interception. But it was good because it put the momentum on our side.
(On putting together the momentum) Oh yeah, you can feel it. There are certain sparks and that's when everything starts coming together.
It's good to see that with the freshmen. You know, everything's starting to come together.
Trent Hunter
Defensive Back
(On interceptions) "Part of it was breaking on the ball, but most of it was just doing my assignment. Coach told me to just stay back and stay in coverage so I stayed back and he threw the ball and I made the catch."
"We knew they were a good team but we thought that if we went out there and played out Texas A&M defense that we could win this."
"If y'all could have seen the scene of the locker room, it looked like we had won a championship. We're coming together so good and it's a great feeling."
Joe Kines
Defensive Coordinator
"It was all over the ballpark that first half they threw everything at us and kept us unbalanced. That was good in the second half because we brought it together and we played hard."
"We really played simple the second half. And that was really good, so we're really proud of them. There's nothing about the game of football that's based on losing. We've got to get back out there in 48 hours and keep going."
(On the freshmen) "They have played hard all year long. I'm not going to say we've always played good, but those young-uns have come out there in practice and worked hard every day."
Cyril Obiozor
Defensive Lineman
"I feel like everybody brought their A-game and everybody played 100 percent today. Everybody did what was necessary to get the 'W'."
Jerrod Johnson
Quarterback
"It took a while to get everybody synched together and everybody on the same page in the first half. I think we came out in the second half and executed well."
"Coach (Sherman) is involved. He's a passionate coach and he knew that he could get a lot out of us. He had a lot of faith in us and that showed in the second half."
"You try to play with emotion everyday. But in the second half, when those big plays happen, you can't help but show more emotion."
"I just kind of put the ball around the guys and they make great plays. The line did a great job blocking and covering for the receivers and all the credit goes to them."
"As a whole, our offense plays with a lot of confidence. But I think these two wins make you feel better and give you more confidence."
Cyrus Gray
Running Back
(on making big plays as freshmen) "Coach told us we were going to come in and do some big things. We've just got to rise to the occasion."
"We play more as a team in practices and we rally around each other and do what coach wants us to do."
Jeff Fuller
Wide Receiver
"It starts in practice. When I first got here, I started a little bit slower than Cyrus. I got kicked off the field a few times and went through a few growing pains. But it's about showing up and working in practice."
Ryan Tannehill
Wide Receiver
"We knew we had to come out in the second half and make some plays. We knew if we put ourselves in the right position, Jerrod could get us the ball. We know that we are as good as anybody in this league. A win today really helps our confidence going into the OU game next week."
Alton Dixon
Defensive Back
"Our mindset today was to take the field with dominance and play the game the way its supposed to be played. Our front seven did a great job today with the blitz packages and staying in the gap."
Kevin Matthews
Offensive Lineman
"We don't really know what happened in the first half. Things just didn't seem to come together. We came out in the second half knowing that we had to make some plays as a unit. A win this week, along with last week, has really helped our confidence as offensive linemen. We know we are getting better every week and we're confident going into the OU game that we can protect our quarterback and our running backs."
Devin Gregg
Defensive Back
