Scarborough Out for the Remainder of the 2008 Season

Texas A&M senior pitcher/first baseman Amanda Scarborough will miss the remainder of the 2008 season after suffering a lisfranc (mid-foot) injury in her right foot during the second game of a doubleheader Feb. 20 against Stephen F. Austin.
?Amanda is one of the greatest softball players to ever wear an Aggie uniform,? A&M head coach Jo Evans said. ?Her list of accomplishments speaks for itself. What that list doesn't reflect is what an amazing young woman Amanda is, what her leadership has meant to our program, and what a legacy she has left for our younger players. Amanda has made tremendous sacrifices for our program and has played injured throughout her career at A&M. Since sustaining an injury in February, she has been an active member of our team, working directly with the pitchers and catchers during practices and games, while trying to rehabilitate her foot.?
Scarborough, a two-time All-American, made 14 starts this season, primarily splitting time between the mound and first base. The Magnolia, Texas-native posted a .447 average, scoring six runs and driving in 13 RBIs on 17 hits, including three doubles and two homeruns.
For her career, Scarborough accumulated an impressive .355 batting average, driving in 125 runs off 118 hits, including 42 doubles, six triples and 25 homeruns. On the mound for the Aggies, the ace recorded a 71-25 record and a 1.45 ERA through 109 appearances. En route to 27 complete-game shutouts she fanned 537 hitters through 599 2/3 innings of work.
Among the most coveted players to come through the Aggie softball program, Scarborough was a finalist for USA Softball?™s National Player of the Year Award in 2007. She is a three-time All-Big 12 first team selection and was named the conference?™s Co-Pitcher of the Year as a junior and Big 12 Freshman of the Year and Player of the Year in 2005. Over the past three seasons, she has earned numerous Pitcher and Player of the Week honors from the Big 12, ESPN.com/USA Softball, and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
?As one of our team captains, Amanda will continue to be involved in all facets of our program and will contribute to our run at a Big 12 title,? Evans said. ?It is a devastating loss to our program, and heartbreaking for Amanda and our team, but she is handling the situation with grace and dignity. It is an honor to coach Amanda, to be a mentor to her, and to have her and her parents associated with our program. Her contributions ?'behind the scenes?™ will be invaluable to our program.?
